Vusumzi Mahlatshana’s prickly pear brick is made from the fruit of the Opuntia Cactus, otherwise known as the ‘prickly pear’. Prickly pear plants are locally grown and are a renewable resource.
These bricks are made from paper, sand and prickly pear. The bricks were showcased at the Better Living Challenge showcase which took place at the Cape Town Train Station forecourt on 28 October t0 8 November 2014.
Jacques Tresfon from Cape Brick applauded the innovation and said , “they are a fun quirky take but if you really want to make a difference then call Cape Brick. Our bricks contain an average of 70% recycled content and is the most environmentally friendly brick available with a proven track record.” Besides and you are unlikely to hurt your fingers!
